Last summer my mom was swimming while on vacation and she lost her favorite gold pendant that my sister and I had given her several years ago for Christmas. I remember when the phone rang and mom was crying on the other end, I thought for sure that something horrible had happened to them on their vacation until she told me that she was swimming in the ocean and lost the gold pendant. I was so relieved that it wasn't anything serious, but to mom losing the gold pendant was major. She apologized profusely and said that she'd meant to take off the gold pendant when she went swimming but she forgot about it. Then her chain got caught on something and broke. She was able to catch the chain before it sank to the bottom of the ocean, but the gold pendant wasn't so lucky. Mom went on to say that her vacation was ruined because she was so upset about the gold pendant. She did enjoy the rest of her trip, but she still talks about how she can't believe that she lost the gold pendant.


After all this happened, I suggested to my sister that we buy mom another gold pendant for her birthday this year to replace the one she lost.
