gold pendant, pearl necklaces

I attended an estate auction last May in the Hamptons. I was their primarily to bid on an intriguing gold pendant. However, the pearl necklaces and bridal jewelry that were there, were of very high quality, but unfortunately they were also fairly new. I was looking for very old jewelry. I have been dealing in the antiquities field for many years now and a good friend of mine told me of an exceptional gold pendant that was at this sale. He knew of it because the late Mrs. Grandier had brought it to him for an appraisal. Unfortunately before he could get to it she had passed on. He summarily returned the pendant to the estate lawyer and got a hold of me. This particular pendant was made in the early 16th century by a very famous jeweler in Paris, France. I looked at the unremarkable looking pendant before the auction and it was in pristine shape, flawless.

I was able to get the pendant for just over two hundred and fifty dollars. I also bid on a pair of vintage jewelry earrings. I paid low retail for the earrings, but the pendant was a steal.
