If past and current trends are anything to go by then pearl necklaces will always be considered stylish and elegant. Pearl necklaces are commonly worn as bridal jewelry but they can be used to dress up any outfit. Given that pearl necklaces have a timeless quality it seems to me that all women who own a nice one should make an effort to look after it. Women who take the time to care for their pearls can hand them down to the next generation as a family heirloom. That means that three hundred years from now one of your successors could wear your pearl necklace as part of her bridal jewelry. Fortunately pearl necklaces are not too difficult to take care of so long as you follow a few simple rules. The first rule is to avoid putting your pearl necklace on until you are ready to leave the house as this will keep it cleaner. When you take the pearls off later rub them with a cloth that does not have any lint. Store your pearls separately so that they do not come into contact with the sharp abrasive surfaces on other jewelry. If your pearls look dirty wash them in a mild soapy solution of soap and water. Never use harsh abrasive cleaners or ammonia based products to clean pearl necklaces.
