Our Tradition is that the Family Chooses the Bridal Jewelry |

Now that 2010 is almost upon us, that means something major to our family; my baby sister is getting married. She has been engaged for about a year now, and she and her fiancée have set their wedding date for June of 2010. The planning is in full swing, although we did take a little break for the past few months so that we could enjoy the Christmas season without making plans. Now that Christmas has passed, we've started making a few plans, and one of which is looking for bridal jewelry.
It has been a tradition in my family for many generations that the bride’s family always buys the bridal jewelry. Well, I guess I shouldn't say that the tradition is that they only buy the bridal jewelry, because the bride’s family also chooses the bridal jewelry. This made my sister a little nervous until I reassured her that I would oversee the entire choosing process and that I promised her bridal jewelry would look perfect with her dress.
My grandmother wanted to choose the bridal jewelry months ago; when she saw something she fell in love with at a local jewelry store. She was very insistent the way grandmothers can be sometimes, but I put my foot down and told her there would be no bridal jewelry chosen until the gown had been purchased and then we would buy bridal jewelry based on the dress and what would look most flattering with the bridal dress. I could see that my sister was very grateful for me stepping in and putting my foot down. As much as I adore my grandmother, I know that she sometimes likes to have things her way which meant I was going to really have to let her know gently that this is about my sister and her special day, and not about my grandmother’s expectations.
Two days after Christmas, grandma was visiting and I called her to my bedroom to show her the beautiful bridal jewelry that I'd found online. I showed her 14K Yellow Gold and Cultured Pearl & Diamond Drop Earrings with 0.02 Carats Diamond and 6.5-7mm Pearl that we found for her at Ultra Mall whose online store can be found by visiting www.theultramall.ispeedway.com and asked her what she thought. I commented on how elegant these earrings would look with my sisters gown and thought that this was the perfect start to choosing the bridal jewelry. I held my breath as she looked at it, because I knew if grandma didn't approve it was going to be a struggle, but she loved it. She said I should order them immediately and I did just that. After that she turned, went back to the living room and announced to everyone that she'd just found the bridal jewelry for my sister’s wedding. Grandma, you gotta love her. |
