Bridal Jewelry
When my sister married I gave her a new bracelet as part of her bridal jewelry. It represented the “something new” in her bridal ensemble. I wanted her to know I loved her and was happy for her and hoped with all my heart her love story was a happily ever after. The bracelet was made of little charms with hearts on them.
My sister had worried she would never marry and here she was, in her thirties, going down the aisle to the man she was in love with. She had opted out of the traditional marrying out of college route and went off to follow her dreams in the world. She settled in with a firm in New York and began her architectural career.
Still, she would call me and wonder if she would ever get to wear the bridal jewelry passed down in our family. Finally, I told her to come home for vacation and go to the lake with us last summer. She did and that is when she met the man she walked down the aisle to marry last weekend. As luck would have it, he was an attorney in New York and had come home to Texas on vacation as well. As I watched her come down the aisle towards me, her matron of honor, and towards her beloved, I had to smile at her again as I caught the family heirlooms of bridal jewelry and the sparkle of the newest addition, her bracelet of hearts.
