I have two pearl necklaces. One was passed down to me as a family heirloom and one that my son bought for me several years ago. My favorite was the one from him. 
 
I have always thought the perfect piece of bridal jewelry is a pearl necklace, so naturally on the day he was married I passed his gift to me down to his new bride. It was difficult for me because of my own sentimental attachment. She worn an off the shoulder gown which perfectly accented the necklace. The only issue one should watch for is that the shades of white on the gown and the pearl's compliment each other. 

Pearl necklaces will change color over time the more you wear them. They react to your body oils and take on a different glow. Fortunately that was not a problem for my daughter-in-law on her special day.

Since then, they have been given the gift of a daughter and their intent is to make my gift a family heirloom of their own. What a wonderful gesture on their part, as it showed me they will value it as much as I did.
